1. What drove you to take up the role of a child caregiver as a career?

I love children. There is no better way to explain my motive. Looking after children and teaching them the ways of the world gives me satisfaction like nothing else can. It is pure pleasure to see them growing up to be fine young men and women.

2. Why do you want to work with us?

Gather some background information regarding the hiring firm first and then answer the question by stating some features of the firm that help them standout form other firms. For example: ‘I have always heard well about the childcare services provided by this firm. Since I am a passionate and dedicated child care giver, I couldn’t think of a better place to join’.

 

3. Why did you leave your previous job?

I enjoyed working with my previous employer a lot, but I constantly felt a need to extend my experiences and work in a more extensive childcare environment that enables one on one interaction with children.

 

4. Why should we hire you as a child caregiver?

Because I posses all the skills you require for the position. Additionally, I’m very dedicated towards childcare giving as a profession. I posses inborn traits needed to succeed as a child caregiver like patience, energy and creativity.

 

5. What do you think a child needs most from a caregiver?

In general the child needs to be loved, listened, given importance and understood by the caregiver. I posses ample knowledge regarding child development and usually cater for the age specific needs of children.

 

6. Do you have any experience of care giving with children having special needs?

‘Yes.’(explain the experience)or, ‘No, but I’m willing to take up a position of child care giving that requires caring for special needs children’.

7. How would you handle upset parents complaining that their child is being teased by another child?

I would calmly convince them that I’ll try my best to make sure it doesn’t happen again and that I’d instill and reinforce the value of empathy among all pupils involved.

 

8. How long have you worked at this position and what is your experience with children between the ages of five and ten?

I have worked as a child caregiver for ten years. While most of my wards have been babies, I have provided care to children aged 6, 8, 9 and 10 as well. With older children, it is not about assisting them in eating and changing; it is more about working with their activities to ensure that they become good human beings.

 

9. As far as preliminary education is concerned, how to you handle your wards?

I employ a school-readiness program for children not yet of school going age. Teaching them language and numbers using appropriate preschool methods is my feat.

 

10. What type of educational activities do you believe a child will enjoy?

Depending on the age of the child, there are a number of physical games, puzzles and memory games that I use to keep them engaged during the time that the parents are away.

 

11. What do you like the least about your job?

The fact that one gets attached to children and it is difficult to let go when the time comes.

I have been a caregiver for eight years during which I have had the opportunity to provide care to both children and the elderly so I am comfortable in handling many diverse types of people.

 

15. What specific attributes qualify you for a caregiver’s position?

My patience is my greatest virtue. I rarely lose my temper which makes it easy for me to handle even the most difficult situations by employing tact. I am also compassionate and a good listener and my older wards have been especially drawn to me for emotional support.

 

16. What makes you so interested in a caregiver’s job?

Seeing people who cannot look after themselves happy and comfortable in their lives is what makes this work so worthwhile. The fact that I can play a valuable role in maintaining someone’s life and dignity is the driving force behind my work.

 

17. How do you handle the pressure associated with this job?

I do not let stress take control of me. I always believe that things could have been much worse and deal with the situation accordingly. The trick is not to lose your temper because if you lose your temper, you lose control of things immediately.

 

18. Are you alright with handling personal care giving duties such as assisting with toileting and bathing?

Yes I am. I am not squeamish about these things as they are all part of the job. I have done these for many years and I am comfortable doing them for as long as I can physically manage them.

 

19. What kind of position are you seeking? After reviewing our advertisement, is this the right kind of position you are in search of?

I seek a mid level elderly caregiver position. My area of interest is elderly care and I possess strong expertise in this domain. Your advertisement calls for a caregiver interested and experienced in elderly care which explains my interest in the same.

 

20. Can you easily carry out the physical duties required for this position?

Definitely, I have great physical stamina and understand the physical demands associated with the job of a caregiver. I am well versed in moving clients, bathing and grooming them while practicing hygienic and safe care practices to prevent any infections and accidents.

 

21. How do you handle people who are annoyed, intractable or afraid?

I have developed good rapport building skills over the years. I’m usually able to calm down angry and irritable individuals by judging their needs and catering for the same proactively. My effective communication skills have always served me well in this regard.

 

22. What kind of diagnoses have you cared for?

I have a diverse field of experience. I have cared for elderly with dementia, adults with Alzheimer’s, children with Down ’s syndrome, physically and mentally handicapped adults and children.

 

23. What time assurance are you willing to commit on the job?

I am available at the mentioned hours and am willing to sign a yearlong renewable contract after probation/ trial period.

 

24. Are you eager to sign a contract saying you will not accept cash or gifts from my parents?

I am a professional and seasoned caregiver, I will be glad to sign such a statement. In fact I did so for my previous employer as well.

 

25. How will you keep the family informed?

Being good at maintaining effective communication channels, I shall definitely remain in constant contact with the family and the client’s doctor to update and discuss any changes or matters of concern regularly through email phone and live meetings.
